S01E02 ATTUNED DISSONANCE
Lots of bands are born with, or adopt a concept to follow, and that’s fine - been there, done that. The thing about Facepalm is that if something feels good and true to us at the moment - it gets a green light. Yeah, it may get chaotic and it may not make sense all the time, but to be honest nobody can afford to get stuck in a single genre anymore. It’s just really boring. The nature of our band may have been behind Slaveyko’s idea to call it Attuned Dissonance (which ended up being a song title).
I think in this company of people (still Yavor, Slaveyko, Mads & me at the time) it’s relatively easy to get lost in planning. We regularly miss the point where planning becomes dreaming. 🌈
At the start there wasn’t a lot of talking about the music either, it was just happening at a ridiculous speed. We were busy talking about other things we wanted to do as a band, such as art direction, videography during live shows, concept stories to write music to, songs featuring other people, cross-genre existence, blogging, rocking some Stinky Socks, using a couple of spray cans… basically anything that anybody could do was welcome and anything was possible. Some of these things did happen, and of course others are temporarily locked in the realm of future possibilities.
To me, seeing and feeling the hunger and motivation to do something new and exciting for ourselves, at this stage in our lives (some of us have kids, others - just back problems), it was the whole point.
This was the situation when we first got together. As any rookie band - we recorded stuff with our phones just to have time to reflect (like this Claustrosofia demo, 2 months into being a band). I didn’t know it then, but while we were all learning how to facepalm, another person was on their way to joining us, and he would change this process (along with many others) in an instant.
